Abstract

|
In order to investigate the influences of iproniazid and reserpine on the anesthetic effect of ethyl alcohol in rabbits, the induction time, anesthetic time, recovery time and total time of the anesthesia induced with ethyl alcohol i. p. injection in rabbits pretreated with iproniazid and reserpine, respectively, was measured, with references to the periodic changes of blood alcohol concentration and blood sugar levels.
The results were obtained as follows;
1. The anesthetic time of the ethyl alchol anesthesia was slightly reduced by the iproniazid pretreatment, but the anesthetic time was markedly prolongated by the reserpine Frstreatment.
2. The blood alcohol concentration was increased to the peak level one hour after alcohol injection, but after that, the concentration was rapidly decreased. And then, by the iproniazid or reserpine pretreatment, the tendency of the rapid decrease was so markedly suppressed that the high level of the blood alcohol concentration was persisted.
3. The hypoglycemic effect of ethyl alcohol was markedly potentiated by the iproniazid pretreatment, but the hypoglycemic effect was markedly inhibited by the reserpine pretreatment.
